The Telecommunication Authority of Pakistan and DIRBS
PTA is the official telecommunication authority of Pakistan and has the prime responsibility to regulate and maintain all the telecommunication services in Pakistan. PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) launched DIRBS in 2018 to facilitate the network services users in Pakistan. DIRBS stands for Device Identification Registration and Blocking System. The main purpose of the establishment of DIRBS was to make sure that only the approved and legally legitimate mobile devices are in use in Pakistan as majority of the mobile devices that are used in Pakistan are imported from the foreign countries, hence, there is the risk of smuggling of mobile devices.

Mobile Device Registration Fee
The mobile device registration fee of each device differs on a number of different standards like the company, model and price of the mobile device. But the benchmark of calculating the tax is the cost as well as the freight value of each mobile device. It is important to remember that the registration fee is calculated on the base of cost and freight value of each mobile device in USD (United States dollar), but it has to be paid by everyone in PKR (Pakistani rupee), the national currency of Pakistan. Another important thing to remember is that the registration of first mobile device is free of cost.

Mobile Device Registration Fee of Different Mobile Devices
The details of the mobile registration fee of the different types of mobile devices depending on the cost and freight value of the mobile device is as follows.

• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is up to 30 in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 300.
• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is above 30 till up to 100 in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 2,940.
• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is above 100 till up to 200 in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 4,510.
• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is above 200 till up to 350 in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 6,180.
• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is above 350 till up to 500 in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 17,650.
• If the cost and freight value of the mobile device is 500 and above in USD then the registration fee in PKR is 31,520.
