Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant, has reportedly poached a former executive from TSMC, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. According to reports, Dr. Liang Mong-song, who was a senior vice president and chief technology officer at TSMC, has joined Samsung as a senior advisor.
Dr. Liang Mong-song is a well-known figure in the semiconductor industry and has over three decades of experience in developing cutting-edge semiconductor technologies. During his time at TSMC, he played a key role in the development of the company's 7nm and 5nm process technologies, which are currently used in high-end mobile processors and other advanced electronics.
Samsung's decision to hire Dr. Liang Mong-song is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its semiconductor business and compete more effectively with TSMC, which is currently the world's largest contract chipmaker. Samsung has been ramping up its efforts in the semiconductor market in recent years, and it has set a goal to become the world's top semiconductor company by 2030.
With Dr. Liang Mong-song on board, Samsung is expected to accelerate its development of advanced semiconductor technologies, particularly in the areas of logic and memory chips. The move is also likely to put pressure on TSMC, which is facing increasing competition from Samsung and other players in the semiconductor market.
